Best Friends

Best Friends

Proverbs 18:24 there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

One of the greatest blessings of our life is our friends. A friend is someone who will stick close to you even in difficult times. Sunshine friends are not true friends at all. They will tell you they are your friends and be glad to be with you when everything is going great. However, when times become difficult for you they will be gone before you know it.

Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times

A true friend knows you well. They know your strengths and they also know your weaknesses, but a true friend will love you at all times.

Proverbs 27:6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend

Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

A true friend is not afraid to tell you the truth about yourself. Even though the truth may hurt, they will love you enough to tell you the truth in love. Since you know they are a true friend you will not break off your relationship with them because they hurt your feelings with the truth.

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends

Now that we have defined the main aspects of a friend, I must ask you, who is your best friend? I have many near and dear friends in my life. Many of you in this congregation are very near and dear to me. However, my best friend and your best friend is Jesus Christ our Lord.

Hebrews 13:5  For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."

Jesus knows you better than anyone. He knows every weakness in your character and life. He knows all the sins you have committed in your life and yet He still loves you.  He loves you so much that he was willing to die for you because it is what you needed so your sins could be forgiven by God. Jesus does not love our sin, but He will always love us. He will never leave you nor forsake you. If everyone else you know disappoints you and forsakes you to where you are all alone, Jesus will never disappoint you or forsake you.

Jesus came into this world to bear witness to the truth. He loves us enough to tell us the truth about ourselves and what our sins have done to our relationship with God. He loves us enough to tell us the truth of the need for repentance in our lives. The truth may hurt, but it what we need. Your best friend is and always will be Jesus Christ.
