Let Them Live

Babies want to be born. They catch their daddies at work or wake their mothers in the night. They force us to change our plans and are born at really inconvenient times. A few years ago” Reader’s Digest told of a woman who gave birth in the hospital elevator, She was sobbing!  A nurse tried to console her by telling about a woman two years earlier who gave birth on the front lawn. The woman began to cry even more.  She said, “I know! That was me too!” Babies want to be born - and live!  In 2008 there were 1.2J million abortions in the U.S. That amounts to 3,322 babies per day sucked out of the womb without their consent. Have we become a nation of apathy with ice water running through ‘our heart and veins? There have been over 55 million abortions since the choice to kill babies was imposed on the nation. No war has come close to costing that many lives. If it were a tobacco company the abortion industry could be sued for, billions of dollars.

Psalm 139:13-15 gives an excellent account of prenatal development and of God’s involvement.

13) For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.

14)1praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

15) My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

David didn’t think of his humanity as uniquely tied to the moment of birth. He regarded himself as having been a “self” before he was born and while his body was being formed. The Bible depicts man as a spirit first that the body forms around, instead of vice versa. The babe in the womb is a person (notice the use of “1” and “me” referring to David while in the womb): The body is a temporary tabernacle (2 Corinthians 5:14).

Babies in the womb are not alien life forms. They are humans whose lives have already begun. The Bible condemns “hands that shed innocent blood” (Prov. 6:12-19). Stop the Slaughter of the innocents. Let them live!
